Ashton Kutcher's involvement in the 2001 murder investigation of Ashley Ellerin has resurfaced amidst backlash over his support for convicted rapist Danny Masterson. The actor and his wife, Mila Kunis, apologized after letters they wrote on behalf of Masterson were made public.
One of Masterson's accusers, Chrissie Carnell Bixler, took to social media to call out Kutcher, saying: "Dear Ashton, I know the secrets your 'role model' keeps for you. Ones that would end you. Did you forget I was there?" Speculation began about Kutcher's actions on February 21, 2001, the day Ellerin was murdered.
"You were on speaker phone that night you called Danny on February 21, 2001. I hear everything. I heard the plan. In my opinion, you're just as sick as your 'mentor'", Chrissie posted.
Kutcher was a witness in the trial of Ellerin's murderer, Michael Gargiulo. He testified that he had plans to go on a date with Ellerin that night and called her twice but received no answer. When he arrived at her home, he peered through the window and saw what he believed to be a wine stain on her carpet. "He believed at that point he had been stood up," said Deputy District Attorney Dan Akemon. "We believe now the evidence will show that was actually blood, and Ashley had already been murdered."
Ashton has been called into question
Despite initially being "freaked out" when he learned his fingerprints were on Ellerin's doorknob, Kutcher was never a suspect in the case and cooperated with the investigation. Gargiulo, dubbed "The Hollywood Ripper," was sentenced to death for Ellerin's murder and another California woman's murder in 2005. He is awaiting trial for the 1993 murder of a teenage girl in Illinois.
Kutcher's past involvement in the case has raised questions about his character and actions. However, he has not been accused of any wrongdoing in relation to Ellerin's murder.
