When I woke up at 3 a.m. this morning, after a likely coronavirus-induced stress dream, I saw a text a friend had sent me after I had fallen asleep after a long session of venting. "Maybe this video of Stanley Tucci will make you feel better," it read. "It's so hot in a way I can't explain."

By the time I fell asleep again and woke up at a reasonable hour to be awake, Stanley Tucci was trending on Twitter because of said video, and now that I've seen it while fully awake, I understand.

In the video, the actor (known for being one of the best parts of The Devil Wears Prada) casually puts together a cocktail as smooth jazz plays in the background, after asking his wife (Felicity Blunt, literary agent, and sister of Emily Blunt) if she'd like a Negroni. She, of course, says yes, and the ensuing footage is equal parts soothing and captivating.

In case you're too distracted by Tucci to pay attention to his actual tutorial, here are the steps: He adds ice to a cocktail shaker before pouring a double shot of gin, a shot of sweet vermouth, and a shot of Campari, and shakes the cocktail.

By the time I officially logged on for work this morning, I got another text about the video from someone else: "Ok what the f—k. I saw the arm first and I was like, 'nice.' And then I read 'Stanley Tucci' and I was like 'WHAT.'"

It would seem like most of Twitter is in agreement with my friends, because he's still trending on the platform after hashtags like #TuesdayThoughts (which I'm convinced derive from everyone desperately trying to keep track of the days of the week after self-isolating for about a month.)

Even Chris Evans got in on the viral video, taking the opportunity to show off the fact that he had starred in a movie with Tucci (Captain America: The First Avenger), who made martinis (!!!) for the cast in his trailer.

You know what? This video does make me feel better. With many restaurants and other non-essential businesses unfortunately closed at the moment, I'm thinking a lot about the small joys I took for granted — namely, going out for a happy hour cocktail with my friends. But until it's safe enough again for us all to go out, I can at least allow Stanley Tucci to teach me to make my own drink.
